The Right Group Chat

Why I started the Boulder Culture Foundation

People my age want to spend more time together. What we are missing is organization.

A friend of mine, someone very close, has been looking for ways to meet people that do not default to parties. There are already good nights in Boulder. They are just scattered. Easy to miss if you are not in the right group chat or already in the habit of going out. That is the gap.

I have a lot of confidence in this generation. I think we want more time together, and I think we can make it easier to find.

COVID took ordinary time with other people from many of us, and those effects have stayed. The practice of running into someone, of showing up without a plan that had to be perfect, got thinner. Phones filled some of the time. They did not fill the room.

The Boulder Culture Foundation is a small answer to that. It is a way to bring people back into the same room, together, and off their phones for a while. I had students in mind when I started this, though the foundation is not limited to students. Anyone in Boulder who wants to show up is welcome.

Our first job is to organize the nights that already exist, support them, and then help make more of them. The goal is an avenue for meeting people that does not require the party as the only door.

We are at the beginning.
